Food Rescue And Food Assistance Program
Food Angel is a food rescue and food assistance program launched in 2011 by Bo Charity Foundation with the mission of “WASTE NOT, HUNGER NOT, WITH LOVE” . The program rescues edible surplus food from different sectors of the food industry that would otherwise be disposed of as waste. Following strict safety protocols, the rescued food items are then prepared as nutritious hot meals and redistributed free of charge to the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.
There are currently two kitchens, one operating in Sham Shui Po and the other in Chai Wan, together producing around 6,000 hot meals and 1,500 food packs daily. The beneficiaries are mostly deprived elderly, followed by low-income families, unemployed persons, the disabled and people in rehabilitation, the homeless, caged home dwellers and disadvantaged groups.
In the 2017-2018 academic year, Ten Percent Donation Scheme will collaborate with Food Angel to provide food support for students in our after-school programs. Through this collaboration, food waste can be reduced while children receive additional assistance and learn to cherish food.
